The Department of Justice Union, formed in the wake of AmityBlamity’s removal as Acting Attorney General have voted to strike in opposition to what they term as the politicisation of the Department of Justice by the Multiman administration, a publicly released statement has said:
“We believe that the public actions taken by the President have undermined the independence of the DOJ and its prosecutions. We request that any Attorney General candidate firmly express their commitment towards independence from political pressures.”
The Union also cited the lack of transparency around the appointment of zLost as acting Attorney General as a core reason behind the decision to strike, the Union demands that all future candidates for the position of Attorney General firmly express their commitment towards independence from political pressure, and transparency over the future of the Attorney Generals Office.
The press release also clarified that the Union recognises the critical nature of the DoJ’s work – and encourages it’s members to request extensions on court deadlines if needed – and that whilst they wish to disrupt the normal workflow of the department, they don’t seek to damage the legal position of the Commonwealth.
